Switching a future model

Preserve unused agreed value through an amendment.

What a replacement preserves

A future model replacement preserves the unused agreed monetary value eligible for the amendment. The service recalculates the token allowance using an approved replacement quote’s input rate.

Previously consumed usage stays attached to its original terms. In-flight reservations are not moved. A new model must have compatible delivery terms and enough replacement capacity.

Requesting a replacement

A replacement can start on either side. An approved provider or broker can price a replacement quote for your agreement, or you can ask for one yourself.

On a future-delivery agreement, open the order detail and choose Request model replacement. Pick the replacement model, add notes about your requirement, and submit. Submitting changes nothing yet: a provider or broker prices the request as a replacement quote, and the proposal appears under Model replacements on the agreement for your review.

You then follow the same preview and acceptance steps as any other replacement quote. No value moves and no amendment capacity is reserved until you accept a priced proposal.

Review a replacement quote

  1. Open Orders & agreements and select the future agreement.
  2. Review its remaining value and any reserved value.
  3. Review the replacement quote supplied by an approved provider or broker.
  4. Compare the old and new model, input/output prices, allowance, and delivery terms.
  5. Accept only when the displayed amendment matches your intention.

You cannot replace an arbitrary model through an inference request. The amendment must be accepted first.

A value-preserving example

This is an illustrative example, not a live quote. Suppose an agreement has $80 of unused, unreserved value. A replacement quote has a $2 / 1M tokens of input price.

That eligible $80 becomes 40 million input-equivalent tokens at the replacement rate. Output and other supported usage then consume this new allowance using the new rate card.

The new allowance may be below the 1 BT purchase minimum. This is an amendment to remaining value, not a new minimum-size purchase.

What happens on acceptance

The service reserves replacement capacity, records an agreement revision, moves eligible remaining value, and releases superseded capacity in one operation. It does not rewrite historical consumption.

If replacement capacity is unavailable or any validation fails, the original agreement remains intact. Review the error and obtain a valid replacement quote before trying again.

What does not change automatically

A replacement does not imply a new delivery end, a different region, a higher throughput, or permission to use unsupported capabilities. Those terms must be explicit in the accepted replacement.

A model switch is also not an automatic fallback rule. Requests continue to name the exact agreed model, and the gateway must use an eligible route.
